More AC/DC & My Ears were Ringing

October 1982 saw me at Hammersmith Odeon one night, and then at Wembley Arena two nights running, to see AC/DC on their ‘For Those About to Rock’ tour.  They were incredible – totally amazing and exciting!  Those canons at the end of each of the gig were loud and I was close to the front on each occassion – I couldn’t hear properly for about a week!

Not only did I have the honour of seeing them so many evenings, but I also had back stage passes – stood next to Gary Moore at Wembley and, on the last night, actually met the band! Quite an experience really – wonder if they would remember me!!  Doubt it!

Last year – slightly beside myself with excitement I managed to get tickets for the gig at the LG Stadium in Birmingham.  Those tickets only cost £250 each and, hindsight being a wonderful thing, at that price something had to be wrong!

Having queued for ages to get in, we finally got to security and those bar code readers, only to find our tickets were forged.  We were gutted and I was furious.  But fair play to getmein.com, we got an entire refund, plus a 50% credit.  That credit enabled us to give it another go and get tickets for the Wembley gig.

As we set off to Wembley I think we both wondered if it was going to be worth the trip, but the tickets looked good (and this time we had them in our hands rather than having to meet someone outside the venue!), so we parked up in Watford and got the train to Wembley.

Hurrah we got in, what’s more our entrance was alongside the stage, so we had a great view.  They opened with Runaway Train and the sound was fantastic (having seen the Foo Fighters at Wembley the previous summer I was concerned about the sound, as it had been appalling for them). They really were as good as, if not better, than they had been in 1982 – and with the same energy!

So when I was told they were headlining Download (apart from the memories of Monsters of Rock in 1981), I was straight on the website to register, ensuring I was able to pre-purchase my ticket.  So in June I’ll be heading over to Castle Donington (by car this time!), praying it doesn’t pour down with rain, to once again watch my heros!  Can’t wait………
