Apple’s iTunes Store reached a major milestone this week when it delivered its 10 billionth song, an event that highlights the great success of Cupertino’s digital-download service.
But as successful as the iTunes Store has been in its nearly seven years of existence, a new series of challenges will require it to evolve to stay competitive. These include a growing number of online movie-streaming competitors, a possible migration by consumers to Web-based music services, and a new crop of hardware devices (e.g., the iPad and similar tablets) that expand the market for digital content. Combine these factors with broadband speeds that should rise significantly in the coming years, and there’s a good chance that iTunes circa 2020 may be very different from today’s service.
What changes are in store for iTunes? A few near-term possibilities:
Web-based iTunes: When Apple bought online music service Lala last year, industry watchers assumed Cupertino would integrate Lala with a Web-based version of iTunes. It remains to be seen what plans Apple has in store for its new purchase, but a cloud-based service that stores customers’ music on Web servers rather than on a limited number of hardware devices makes sense, particularly for users with multiple, Web-connected portable devices.
Subscription services: The era of the 99-cent (or thereabouts) song download may not be over, but are its days numbered? Music-streaming services such as Pandora and Rhapsody are popular among iPhone and iPod touch users, and certainly a streaming option would be welcome by iTunes fans. There’s also talk of an iTunes TV subscription service for about $30 per month.
Cheaper TV shows and movies: According recent rumors, Apple may cut the cost of iTunes TV show downloads to $1, a move that could coincide with the iPad’s release in April. Apple currently charges $1.99 for standard-definition TV shows, and $2.99 for high-def. As with the alleged iTunes TV subscription service, it’s unclear whether Hollywood studios would agree to these aggressively priced proposals.
AppleTV: This nifty little media player for the living room hasn’t gotten much (if any) marketing love from the folks in Cupertino. Perhaps Apple isn’t quite sure how to market the box, which hooks tightly into the iTunes Store and downloads movies, TV shows, music, and more. Now may be a good time to trumpet AppleTV’s virtues, however. A number of well-funded competitors, including Netflix, Amazon, and Wal-Mart, the latter of which just announced plans to buy video-streaming service VUDU, are making a play for the online movie business.
HiJack, Santiago & Bushido Drop First Ever Collaborative EP with PMM033
Potty Mouth Music’s powerhouse producers strike first with club, house punch
CHICAGO—What happens when three of Potty Mouth Music’s most established producers team up in their first ever studio collaboration? Think samples, synths and instrumentation galore. The end result is “Way Back EP,” a four-track mix of house, percussive and peak-hour grooves that draw influences from the distinct styles of PMM’s Jon Chant (HiJack) and Chris Santiago and Tim Bushido (Santiago & Bushido).
The inception of PMM033 dates back to spring 2009, when UK-native HiJack toured the States on the strength of his “Jackpot” (PMM05) and “Keep It Real”(PMM 022) EPs. Between gigs, he caught up with Chicago-based production duo Santiago & Bushido and settled in for some studio time.
“The result was Way Back, which is a track all three of us made together,” Bushido says.
A series of overseas emails soon yielded two remixes—one completely done by HiJack and another styled solely by S&B. “Putting it Down,” the EP’s other original track, was also crafted through a collaborative series of audio exchanges. “Jon started it and got the core of the track—we beefed it up a bit and added our trademarks to it and mixed it down,” Bushido says.
The EP’s original title track pays homage to HiJack’s quirky hooks and heavy grooves while S&B add their signature build-up to the sound. The classic, a cappella house vox pulses with an organic groove framed by the backdrop of synths and drums. On the remix tip, HiJack takes a stripped down house approach, showcasing a vocal sample that sums the track best: “We used to jack our body to the beat.”
For their remix of the title track, S&B bring back the sound that made them famous on PMM releases including “For What EP” (PMM04) and “For the People” (PMM10). Huge club build-ups, insane breakdowns, and dark, driving synths give their version of “Way Back” plenty of big room bite. The trio polishes off the EP with the unexpected “Putting it Down,” a collaborative effort that spun some house-heavy results.
“It’s definitely a groover for house heads with some fresh samples and chunky beats,” HiJack quips.
As veteran roster mainstays, HiJack and Santiago & Bushido say “Way Back EP” stays true to the Potty Mouth sound while bringing a fresh sound to label and club fans alike.
“We’re three of Potty Mouth’s core artists who are bringing tracks together that are dirty but still keep that house groove,” Bushido says. “And the remixes give you more of what we are doing independently as artists—which is always something new.”
“Way Back EP” is now available exclusively on beatport.com for the next four weeks.

A collection of songs from the first nine episodes of season 1 feature on Glee: The Music, Volume 1, which was released on November 3, 2009.
Reviewing the album, Christopher John Farley for The Wall Street Journal opined that: “If you’re a fan of the show, the album will evoke fond memories of favorite episodes, giving the songs with an emotional backstory that many pop hits lack.” Jon Dolan for Rolling Stone commented: “Star Matthew Morrison couldn’t rap his way out of a 98° rehearsal. But Amber “Mercedes” Riley crushes Jazmine Sullivan’s “Bust Your Windows”, and the Gleeks’ “Don’t Stop Believin’” is a triumphal moment against which resistance is futile.” Allmusic’s Andrew Leahey noted that Cory Monteith and Dianna Agron “can’t sing nearly as well as their co-stars”, but opined that the album: “has enough star power to keep things trucking along, especially when powerhouse alto Lea Michele takes the wheel.”
Entertainment Weekly’s Leah Greenblatt wrote that the album: “has a giddy sort of ‘let’s put on a show’ charm; on record, it’s basically fancy (albeit fun) karaoke.” Brian Linder of IGN characterized it as having “an appealing irreverent spirit that tamps down the earnestness just as it begins to overwhelm.” He felt that “Sweet Caroline” and “Say a Little Prayer” had “very little resonance”, and deemed “You Keep me Hangin’ On” “uninspiring”. More positively, he noted: “for all its sass, wit, and irony, Glee’s at its musical best when the cast are belting out big ballads with starry-eyed sincerity. Their cover of Queen’s “Somebody to Love” would make Freddie Mercury proud. And Avril’s “Keep Holding On” is given an especially affecting treatment that (apologies to Ms. Lavigne) surpasses the original.”
The Independent’s Andy Gill was apathetic towards the album, noting: “there’s little here to raise either spirits or hackles”, and observing that: “I found myself neither angered nor elated by the karaoke-pop repossessions of rock history.” Alexis Petridis of The Guardian felt that the album requires “a certain suspension of disbelief”, writing: “Enjoyment is predicated on the listener’s ability to buy into a fantasy”. Petridis felt, however, that: “if you’re prepared to buy into the conceit, “Glee: the Soundtrack” almost lives up to its title.”

Do you have a WordPress site with lots of pages in a hierarchical structure? Are you trying to use WordPress like a “real” CMS? Then this plugin is for you
Installation:
Quick and easy installation:
Upload the folder wppagetree to the /wp-content/plugins/ directory
Activate the plugin through the ‘Plugins’ menu in WordPress
(Optional) Use the sidebar widget or the template function to display the tree on your site.
Done!
faq:
OK, so the page tree is useful in my admin area, but HOW do I display the tree on my site, for easier page navigation?
There are three ways. Simplest is to use the sidebar widget, if your template is widgetized. Simply drag the “Page tree” widget to where you want it – set its name and whether you want to display the tree collapsed or expanded by default, and if you want to show or hide the expand/collapse controls.
There is also a shortcode for including the tree in your pages/posts if you want to. The syntax is:
… using the same attribute syntax as the function below.
Or you can use the pagetree_public function which lets you use the tree anywhere on your site:
Defaults are “false” for all options, which gives you a “naked”, complete collapsed page tree.
So, just use pagetree_public() for a simple, naked tree.
What does this plugin actually do?
This plugin simply provides an easier way for administrators/authors to navigate a large collection of pages in your WordPress installation. It adds a new submenu to your “pages” navigation menu which takes you to a list of all your published pages in a collapse/expand tree.
I can’t see my unpublished/hidden pages!
Well, yes and no. The sidebar widget and template function only displays published pages, since it is meant for use on your public site. The admin tree displays ALL pages.
The Fame Monster (stylized as The Fame Mons†er) is the second studio album by American recording artist Lady Gaga, released on November 18, 2009. The album’s eight songs were initially intended to be part of a re-release of Gaga’s debut album The Fame. However, Gaga announced that the new songs would be available as a stand alone album, as she thought the re-release was too expensive and that, as the piece represents a separate conceptual and musical body of work, it does not need the songs of The Fame to support it. A Super Deluxe Fame Monster pack containing the two releases was released on December 15, 2009.
The album deals with the darker side of fame, as experienced by Gaga over the course of 2008–2009 while travelling around the world, and are expressed through a monster metaphor. Gaga compared the feel of her debut album and The Fame Monster with the Yin and yang concept. Cover artwork was done by Hedi Slimane and has a gothic look which Gaga had to convince her record company to allow her to shoot. The composition takes its inspiration from Gothic music and fashion shows. Contemporary critics gave a positive review of the album, with the majority of them complimenting the songs “Bad Romance” and “Dance in the Dark”.
In some countries the album charted together with The Fame while in others like the United States, Canada and Japan, it charted as a separate album. It has reached top ten in most of the major markets. “Bad Romance” was released as the album’s first single. It topped the Canadian, United Kingdom and Irish charts while reaching the top ten in United States, Australia and Sweden. She announced The Monster Ball Tour supporting the album, which started on November 27, 2009 and will continue through June 2010.

Song Background
My band mate, Marc Jacob showed me a really cool capo setting he saw Steve Earl using. It is on the second fret without the top E string left open. The E string is left to resonate really deeply. I was looking for something more emotional and resonant. I found three great chords using this setting. This need was inspired by The Uglysuite “… And We Became Sunshine” which I had been playing over and over again.
I was riffing just to figure out where the words would go and how they would sound. These were the first words that came out. I try to make a habit of trusting my instincts, my insides, and they need to let my subconscious speak. I feel songs becomes more personal and emotional that way.
The words are short and sweet. I believe the have the following meaning… I seem to have an annoying, perpetual sense of not being worthy or not belonging. But that other people and creatures alike are drawn toward things… to migrate, to congregate, to be together, but I do not have this as a part of my life.

Jadi, selamat mengunduh!…

I’m not the person you knew before, brand new sound
With the new me one more round
Dance dance dance till we run this town
Oppa oppa I’ll be I’ll be down down down down
Hey oppa look at me, just take a look at me
It’s the first time I’ve spoken like this
I fixed my hair and put on make-up too
Why do you only not notice me?
Thump thump, my heart is beating
I just continue imagining
What should I do, having been so proud
I just want to tell you
Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh! Oppa, I love you
Ah! Ah! Ah! Ah! A lot, a lot
It’s embarrassing so don’t laugh
It’s the truth so don’t make fun either
I’m just saying stupid things again
I’m not the person you knew before, brand new sound
With the new me one more round
Dance dance dance till we run this town
Oppa oppa, I’ll be I’ll be down down down down
Oppa, just listen to me
Stop saying other things
Don’t think of me just as a younger sister
You’ll regret after a year
You don’t know my thoughts at all
You don’t realize and just joke around
What should I do, you immature person
Just listen to me
Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh! Oppa, I love you
Ah! Ah! Ah! Ah! A lot, a lot
It’s embarrassing so don’t laugh
It’s the truth so don’t make fun either
If you do that again, I might just cry
I’m not the person you knew before, brand new sound
Something about my heart is different today
Down down, don’t put it off, I just get mad
Oppa oppa, if you keep this up, no no no no
Tell me boy boy love it it it it it it it ah!
Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh! Oppa, I love you
Ah! Ah! Ah! Ah! A lot, a lot
Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh! Oppa, I love you

While to topic of weed has been thoroughly covered in hip hop, the other drugs often get looked over. be it a positive view of them or a negative take, drugs like mushrooms, acid, coke , pcp, ecstasy, and of course alcohol have all had their shine in hip hop . so here are two mixes. one shows the good side and the other shows the bad side. admittedly, the line does get blurry on a few of these but you get the idea.
oh, and on a side note, i was searching for songs about heroin use but , apparently, rappers not named B.G. don’t do it…or at least they don’t discuss it. any one who knows of hip hop songs regaling in heroin use, please point me in the right direction.

(originally posted on the TROY blog. peep it on my blogroll for pretty much anything good that involves golden age hip hop)
October 1982 saw me at Hammersmith Odeon one night, and then at Wembley Arena two nights running, to see AC/DC on their ‘For Those About to Rock’ tour. They were incredible – totally amazing and exciting! Those canons at the end of each of the gig were loud and I was close to the front on each occassion – I couldn’t hear properly for about a week!
Not only did I have the honour of seeing them so many evenings, but I also had back stage passes – stood next to Gary Moore at Wembley and, on the last night, actually met the band! Quite an experience really – wonder if they would remember me!! Doubt it!
Last year – slightly beside myself with excitement I managed to get tickets for the gig at the LG Stadium in Birmingham. Those tickets only cost £250 each and, hindsight being a wonderful thing, at that price something had to be wrong!
Having queued for ages to get in, we finally got to security and those bar code readers, only to find our tickets were forged. We were gutted and I was furious. But fair play to getmein.com, we got an entire refund, plus a 50% credit. That credit enabled us to give it another go and get tickets for the Wembley gig.
As we set off to Wembley I think we both wondered if it was going to be worth the trip, but the tickets looked good (and this time we had them in our hands rather than having to meet someone outside the venue!), so we parked up in Watford and got the train to Wembley.
Hurrah we got in, what’s more our entrance was alongside the stage, so we had a great view. They opened with Runaway Train and the sound was fantastic (having seen the Foo Fighters at Wembley the previous summer I was concerned about the sound, as it had been appalling for them). They really were as good as, if not better, than they had been in 1982 – and with the same energy!
So when I was told they were headlining Download (apart from the memories of Monsters of Rock in 1981), I was straight on the website to register, ensuring I was able to pre-purchase my ticket. So in June I’ll be heading over to Castle Donington (by car this time!), praying it doesn’t pour down with rain, to once again watch my heros! Can’t wait………
our favorite gentleman (see that shit?) in winston audio are currently celebrating their one year anniversary of the release of their debut, the red rhythm. in case you’re an asshole and have already forgotten, we did a spotlight on these guys late last year. anyway, they chose to celebrate by giving their album away. for free.
this is only for a limited time, so grab a great rock n roll record from 2009 and head over to the band’s myspace and leave em some love.
With Valentine’s Day approaching I figured I’d post up some mixes for all the lovers out there. This came out back in 2007, and is a tribute to J Dilla. Its hosted by none other than Q-tip from A Tribe Called Quest and is mixed by Statik Selektah.

Despite averting the assassination attempt on foreign peacekeeping leader Omar Hassan, Jack Bauer’s day intensifies when he is forced to go further undercover to secure the unsecured enriched nuclear materials. As international delegates reconvene at the United Nations, President Taylor’s goodwill comes into question and CTU races against time to assist with the mission.
I’ve posted the tracks I was feeling off this DJ Khaled album so this one has to get a post. Nasir Jones graces the mic this time accompanied by the Legend’s vocals. NaS definitely does his thing.

“Today Was a Fairytale” is a country pop song by American singer Taylor Swift, released as a promotional single from the Valentine’s Day soundtrack. Lyrically, the song speaks of a romance using a fairy tale metaphor, much like her previous single “Love Story.” The song was released digitally on iTunes on January 19, 2010. The song is scheduled to be released physically in the United Kingdom on February 8th. Swift performed “Today Was a Fairytale” at the 2010 Grammy Awards.
“Today Was a Fairytale” debuted at #2 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart for the week of February 6, 2010. The debut was a career best for Swift, beating “Fearless” which debuted at number 9. However, the song plumetted to #22 in its second week on the Hot 100 due to a dramatic drop in downloads. It also debuted at #52 on U.S. Hot Country Songs the same week based on unsolicited airplay. The song sold 325,000 downloads, breaking the record for best first-week download sales by a female artist previously held by the Britney Spears track “Womanizer” which sold 286,000 in its first week. It is Swift’s sixth Top 10 single on the Hot 100 and her 23rd top forty single.

Tru master is mostly known for his Wu-tang production but he also occasionally rapped. This song was off a compilation Guru put out of new acts he was working with called “The Illkid sampler”. Not many of these panned out but at least this joint got made.
“The majority of the tracks on this compilation were big download hits in the early 00s at the original mp3.com website. They also appeared on the three Mind’s Eye Dub albums for mp3.com: ‘Mind’s Eye’, ‘Mystic’ and ‘De Jah Vu’. We are treated with several unforgettable melodies here, most of them played on the melodica: timeless, majestic, reggae instrumentals recorded on a Fostex cassette portastudio!”
